PROJECT OVERVIEW
MCUBE Engineering Consultants was engaged to undertake a smoke-ventilation study for the Pit Shop Sajja project. The assignment formed part of the project’s fire and life-safety engineering coordination and was focused on establishing an appropriate technical basis for smoke management requirements.
THE REQUIREMENT
The project required an engineering review of smoke-ventilation needs in relation to the space configuration, intended use and applicable project/authority requirements, with a clear strategy to support subsequent design coordination.
OUR SCOPE
- Review of the available architectural and project information relevant to smoke ventilation.
- Development of the smoke-ventilation design basis and engineering strategy.
- Assessment of ventilation/extraction requirements at a high level based on the verified project scope.
- Technical coordination with the project team and identification of required interfaces.
- Preparation of engineering recommendations to support design development and approval coordination.
OUR APPROACH
MCUBE treated smoke ventilation as a life-safety design interface rather than an isolated fan-selection exercise. The study considered space use, geometry, fire/life-safety intent, and coordination constraints together so that the recommended strategy could be integrated with the wider project design.

KEY TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS
| SMOKE MANAGEMENT Engineering review focused on life-safety ventilation requirements. |
DESIGN BASIS Structured interpretation of space use and project constraints. |
INTERFACE REVIEW Coordination with architectural and MEP requirements. |
| AUTHORITY READINESS Technical recommendations structured to support approvals. |
PRACTICALITY Focus on an implementable ventilation strategy. |
ADVISORY Independent engineering input for subsequent design development. |
ENGINEERING VALUE
- Independent, engineering-led delivery with clear technical accountability.
- Structured coordination that reduces ambiguity between design intent and project execution.
- Traceable review methodology using documented inputs, standards and project criteria.
- Practical outputs developed to support construction, commissioning, retrofit or approval decisions as applicable.
RESULTS
The study provided the project team with a structured smoke-ventilation engineering basis and a clear set of technical recommendations to support coordinated design development and authority discussions.
